A Cage For Your Wine, The Wine We Can't Live Without, & The Science Behind Screw Caps

Plus: Ivan Orkin from Ivan Ramen shares his take on aglio e olio, a Valentine’s Day wine pop-up at the tippy top of a Williamsburg Hotel, and more.

Happy Thursday!

We were planning to include a write up of a wine shop we visited upstate over the weekend, but decided at the last minute to hold it for something new: The Sunday SWURL, launching this Sunday. The piece has a longer word count and a few photos to accompany it, and it felt like the right way to kick off a standalone edition we’ve been meaning to get going for a while. Look out for it in your inbox early Sunday morning.

In today’s newsletter, we’re sharing an in-depth article on screw caps, featuring perspectives from hospitality professionals, winemakers, and a professor at UC Davis. We’ve also rounded up a few upcoming events, included our Valentine’s Day–themed cartoon of the week, and more.

Outside of that, our next Win Son Wine Bar night will take place on Thursday, March 5. More details will be shared in next week’s newsletter. And don’t forget to follow us on Instagram for more frequent updates, and to subscribe to our YouTube channel to watch our latest video content.

Enjoy, and thanks for reading!

Lei has an exciting lineup of wine-focused nights coming up. Each one worth circling on your calendar.

On February 27th, the bar hosts a BTG and full list takeover from Jean-Marie Guffens, featuring all five of the Mâconnais cult producer’s projects as they re-enter the U.S. market for the first time in nearly a decade. Winemaker Julien will be pouring alongside his daughter, Marie.

March 1st brings celebrated Finger Lakes winemakers Kelby James Russell and Julia Rose Hoyle of Apollo’s Praise where they’ll be pouring a selection of exclusive bottles.

Then on March 2nd, Mullineux Wines is taking over the BTG list, with Chris Mullineux in the room and pouring alongside the team.

Three very different producers. Three very good excuses to be in Chinatown.
